La Agencia Internacional para la Investigación del Cáncer (IARC/OMS), la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), la Red de Institutos Nacionales del Cáncer, la Asociación de Ligas Latinoamericanas contra el Cáncer (ALICC) y la Sociedad Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Oncología Médica están lanzando una iniciativa para desarrollar el "Código Latinoamericano contra el Cáncer" para proporcionar una fuente autorizada de asesoramiento a ciudadanos individuales sobre cómo reducir el riesgo de cáncer mediante doce recomendaciones.
Los expertos regionales evaluarán la última evidencia científica que proporciona recomendaciones basadas en la ciencia como una herramienta de prevención del cáncer. El Código se adaptará a los factores de riesgo específicos, patrones de cáncer y prioridades de prevención para la región.
Las recomendaciones e información adicional relacionada entonces serían luego probados por los expertos en salud pública y control del cáncer de la región, con el fin de asegurar el más alto de aceptación y la apropiación por tanto, el público y entre los que trabajan en el sistema de salud y el asesoramiento sobre la salud.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO), the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) , the Network of National Cancer Institutes, the Association of Latin-American Leagues against Cancer (ALICC) and the Latin-American & Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology are launching an initiative to develop the “Latin-American Code Against Cancer” to provide an authoritative source of advice to individual citizens on how to reduce the cancer risk by means of twelve recommendations
Regional experts will evaluate the latest scientific evidence providing science-based recommendations as a cancer prevention tool .The Code will be tailored to the specific risk factors, cancer patterns and prevention priorities for the region
The recommendations and related additional information would then be approved by the public health and cancer control experts of the region, in order to secure the highest acceptance and ownership by both, the public and among those working in the health system and advising on health.

Lanzamiento - Asociado Postdoctoral en Oncologia Global en la Universidad de Miami
Nos da mucho gusto poder compartir el lanzamiento de una nueva posición, el Asociado Postdoctoral en Oncología Global en el Colegio Miller de Medicina en la Universidad de Miami (UM). Esta posición es específicamente para un médico de Latino América y durará un periodo de un año en el Sylvester Centro Comprensivo de Cancer localizado en UM. Launching - Postdoctoral Associate in Global Oncology at the University of Miami
We are pleased to share the launching of a new position, the Postdoctoral Associate in Global Oncology at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami (UM). This position is specifically for a Latin American doctor and will last for a period of one year at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center located at UM. The purpose of this new position is the specialization of an oncologist in the discipline of Global Oncology.
The doctor is expected to develop to be able to lead cancer control efforts, improve clinical and health results, conducting health economics research, and advocate for the improvement in their health systems upon return to their country of origin. El Instituto Nacional del Cáncer (NCI) acoge el “Plan de estudios de verano en la Prevención del Cáncer del NCI” todos los años en Rockville, Maryland. El Currículum brinda capacitación en control del cáncer, prevención e investigación para científicos nacionales e internacionales y profesionales de la salud. El curso Principios y Práctica del Control del Cáncer, que se celebrará del 9 de julio al 3 de agosto de 2018, se centra en conceptos, métodos, problemas y aplicaciones relacionadas con la prevención y el control del cáncer. El Curso de Prevención Molecular, que se celebrará del 6 al 10 de agosto de 2018, proporciona una sólida formación en biología molecular y genética del cáncer y una visión general de los enfoques básicos de laboratorio aplicados a la investigación de vanguardia en los campos de la epidemiología molecular, la quimioprevención y los biomarcadores y la investigación traslacional.

National Cancer Institute Scholarship 2018

The 2018 NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention is currently accepting applications!
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) hosts the “NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention” every year in Rockville, Maryland. The Curriculum provides training in cancer control, prevention, and research for domestic and international scientists and health care professionals. The Principles and Practice of Cancer Control Course, to be held July 9 – August 3, 2018, focuses on concepts, methods, issues, and applications related to cancer prevention and control. The Molecular Prevention Course, to be held August 6–10, 2018, provides a strong background in the molecular biology and genetics of cancer and an overview of basic laboratory approaches applied to cutting-edge research in the fields of molecular epidemiology, chemoprevention, biomarkers, and translational research.
The application deadline is February 1, 2018. A limited amount of financial support may be available for selected meritorious applications from low- and middle-income countries.

III Congreso Chileno de Estudiantes de Medicina (COCEM)

El Congreso es organizado por las Academias Científicas de Estudiantes de Medicina de la Universidad de Chile (ACEM UChile) y de la Pontificia Universidad Católica (ACEM UC).
Nuestro congreso parte el año 2016 como una respuesta a la necesidad de una constante actualización, complemento y refuerzo a la docencia recibida por nuestros compañeros a lo largo del país, buscando reunirlos una vez al año, durante una semana, para tratar aspectos médicos de alto interés nacional. Es así como el 2016 reunimos a alrededor de 600 estudiantes bajo la temática de Investigación en Ciencias Biomédicas, y actualizaciones en Medicina Interna, Pediatría, Neurología, Cardiología, Cirugía, y Ginecoobstetricia, mientras que en nuestra segunda versión reunimos a más de 650 alumnos a aprender sobre Medicina de Urgencias, con módulos de Medicina Interna, Cirugía, y Neuropsiquiatría.
Este año, COCEM 2018 se realizará entre los días 22 al 27 de Julio en Campus San Joaquín de la Pontificia Universidad Católica, y abordará Enfermedades Crónicas y Prevalentes, con cursos modulares de Atención Primaria, Cardiovascular, Oncología y Cuidados Paliativos, y Salud Mental y Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas, esperando convocar a 800 estudiantes de todo el país. Además, dentro de nuestras charlas magistrales, incorporaremos un ciclo llamado “Vanguardia en Medicina”, en donde esperamos invitar a destacados científicos en el área biomédica para que se dirijan a nuestros congresistas, mostrando sus investigaciones en diagnósticos, tratamientos, y descubrimientos que pueden forjar el futuro del ejercicio de la medicina.

III Chilean Congress of Medical Students (COCEM)
July 22-27, 2018 – Campus San Joaquín, Santiago, Chile
The Congress is organized by the Scientific Academies of Medical Students of the University of Chile (ACEM UChile) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica (ACEM UC).
Our congress starts in 2016 as a response to the need for constant updating, complement and reinforcement of the teaching received by our colleagues throughout the country, seeking to gather them once a year, for a week, to treat medical aspects of high national interest. This is how in 2016 we gathered around 600 students under the theme of Research in Biomedical Sciences, and updates in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology, Cardiology, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, while in our second version we gathered more than 650 students to learn about Emergency Medicine, with modules of Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Neuropsychiatry.
This year, COCEM 2018 will take place from July 22 to 27 at the San Joaquín Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica, and will address Chronic and Prevalent Diseases, with modular courses of Primary Care, Cardiovascular, Oncology and Palliative Care, and Mental Health and Neurodegenerative Diseases, waiting to summon 800 students from all over the country. In addition, within our masterly lectures, we will incorporate a cycle called "Vanguard in Medicine", where we hope to invite leading scientists in the biomedical area to address our congress members, showing their research in diagnostics, treatments, and discoveries that can shape the future of the practice of medicine.

VII Congreso Internacional de Oncología del Interior

Desde la Asociación de Oncólogos Clínicos de Córdoba tenemos el agrado de comunicarles que el VII Congreso Internacional de Oncología del Interior y XVI Jornadas de Oncología del Interior se llevarán a cabo del 7 al 9 de noviembre del 2018 en el Centro de Convenciones del Hotel Sheraton de esta ciudad.
Es un orgullo para nuestra Asociación organizar un evento de tal magnitud el cual nos permite contribuir con la educación y perfeccionamiento profesional, así como entablar lazos científicos y de camaradería.
A nuestra tarea se sumarán la Asociación Argentina de Oncología Clínica, FLASCA (Federación de Sociedades Latinoamericanas de Cancerología) para jerarquizar aún más nuestro congreso.

VII International Congress of Oncology of the Interior

From the Association of Clinical Oncologists of Cordoba we are pleased to inform you that the VII International Congress of Oncology of the Interior and XVI Conference of Oncology of the Interior will take place from November 7 to 9, 2018 at the Convention Center of the Sheraton Hotel of this city.
It is an honor for our Association to organize an event of such magnitude that allows us to contribute to education and professional development, and establish scientific ties and camaraderie.
The Argentine Association of Clinical Oncology, FLASCA (Federation of Latin American Societies of Cancerology) will join our task to further prioritize our congress.
We have invited different scientific societies of our environment in order to integrate the knowledge of the pathology from different perspectives: Aamycp (Argentine Association of Medicine and Palliative Care), SATRO (Argentine Society of Radiation Oncology Therapy), SORDIC (Society of Radiology and Diagnosis) by Images of the Province of Córdoba) and the Musculoskeletal Tumors Unit of the Province of Córdoba.

SIOP tiene como objetivo crear un mundo en el que ningún niño muera de cáncerDurante los últimos 50 años, las tasas de curación de muchos cánceres pediátricos han mejorado en gran medidaSin embargo, también es cierto que todavía hay muchos niños con cáncer refractario que no pueden curarse o luchar durante un largo tiempo..
SIOP también tiene como objetivo poner a todos los países del mundo bajo el mismo paraguas para que los pacientes puedan recibir los mismos niveles de diagnóstico, tratamiento y cuidado. Tenemos que trabajar juntos para resolver muchos problemas y desafiar así conjuntamente el futuro.

50th SIOP Congress
November 16-19, 2018 – Kyoto, Japan
The 50th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) will be held in November 16-19, 2018, in Kyoto, Japan. It is a great honor for us to host such a memorial 50th anniversary meeting in Japan.
SIOP aims to make a world that no child should die of cancer. For the last 50 years, the cure rates of many paediatric cancers have largely improved. However, it is also true that there are still many children with refractory cancer who cannot be cured or struggle for a long time.
SIOP also aims to put all countries in the world under the same umbrella for the patients to be able to receive equal levels of diagnosis, treatment and care. We must work together to solve many problems and challenge together for the future.
We hope that SIOP 2018 in Kyoto will be a turning point to further improve the cure rates and care of children with cancer in the whole world.

Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer
El Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer es un grupo de colaboración que reúne 19 miembros de 9 países y diferentes sectores (médicos, asociaciones de pacientes, instituciones) con el fin de analizar y discutir temas relacionados con el estado del cáncer en la región, y ofrecer recomendaciones para avanzar contra la enfermedad.
El Observatorio surgió de una reunión convocada conjuntamente por la UICC y SLACOM en 2014 en Colombia, en la que se acordaron tres puntos clave de acción prioritaria:
- Detección temprana de la enfermedad (formación médica y tamizaje)
- Acceso a tratamientos (mejor acceso y más oportuno)
- Atención integral (con apoyo multidisciplinario y cuidados paliativos)

Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO)
The Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO) is a multi-stakeholder group that gathers 19 members from across nine countries to discuss and analyze topics relevant to cancer in the region, offering recommendations to make progress against the disease. LACO emerged from a meeting jointly convened by UICC and SLACOM in May 2014 in Colombia. On that occasion, its members agreed on three priority areas to improve cancer control in Latin America:
- Early detection of the disease (medical training and screening)
- Access to treatment (better and timely access)
- Holistic care (multidisciplinary support and palliative care)
