Reunión oficial del Presidente de Uruguay Dr Tabare Vazquez y SAR la Princesa Dina Mired de Jordania, Presidente electa de la Union Internacional contra el Cancer (UICC)

Organizada por el Dr Eduardo Cazap se realizo en Montevideo, Uruguay el 17 de Agosto reunión privada entre la Princesa Dina Mired y el Presidente Vazquez. En la misma se conversaron acciones comunes en la lucha contra el cáncer, especialmente en la región de LA, y durante la misma el Presidente Vazquez recibió el título de Embajador Global de UICC para el proyecto Desafío de las ciudades CCan 2025.

Esta reunión sirvió para coordinar agendas en referencia especialmente a la próxima reunión en Montevideo de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS)  organizando la Conferencia Mundial sobre Enfermedades No Transmisibles (ENT) a fin de  mejorar políticas entre las diferentes esferas para el logro de la meta 3.4 de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) sobre las ENT. Se aspira reducir en en el 2030 a un tercio la mortalidad prematura por enfermedades no transmisibles mediante la prevención y el tratamiento.
La conferencia, que se celebrará del 18 al 20 de octubre de 2017 en Montevideo, será auspiciada por el Presidente del Uruguay.

También se converso sobre las actividades a realizar durante la próxima Cumbre de Líderes Mundiales de Cancer a realizarse en la ciudad de Méjico del 13 al 15 de Noviembre de 2017.

SEGUNDO FORO MULTIDISCIPLINARIO SOBRE CÁNCER 2017

Los días 15 y 16 de agosto, la Liga Argentina de Lucha contra el Cáncer (LALCEC) realizó en La Rural la segunda edición del Foro Multidisciplinario sobre Cáncer. The purpose of the event was to address the problem of the disease from a horizontal perspective,así como debatir y analizar entre distintos sectores las posibilidades, desafíos y obstáculos que se enfrentan en la lucha contra el cáncer.
Más de 120 prestigiosos oradores, entre los que se encontraron autoridades gubernamentales y de organismos públicos, periodistas especializados, pacientes recuperados, líderes de opinión, celebridades y representantes de diferentes sectores, disertaron en más de diez mesas a lo largo de dos jornadas.

Algunos de los temas abordados en el Foro fueron: Argentina y el cáncer 3D, la posición del Estado, las ONG y los privados frente a la enfermedad; el rol de la innovación tecnológica en la lucha contra el cáncer; prevención y factores de riesgo; cáncer y deporte; situación del cáncer en Latinoamérica; el abordaje mediático de la enfermedad; creencias y medicina alternativa. También se hizo el lanzamiento del evento de “Relevo por la vida”, que LALCEC traerá a Argentina en 2018, y se realizó la presentación del desafío City Cancer Challenge 2025, liderado por la UICC.

Official meeting between the President of Uruguay Dr Tabare Vazquez and HRH Princess Dina Mired from Jordania, President elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)

Organized by Dr Eduardo Cazap took place in Montevideo, Uruguay on August 17th a private meeting between Princess Dina Mired and President Vazquez. During same common actions were discussed regarding the fight against cancer, specially in the LA region, and during same President Vazquez received the title of Global Ambassador of UICC for the project City Cancer Challenge CCan 2025.

This meeting served to coordinate agendas in reference specially to the next meeting in Montevideo of the World Health Organization (OMS) organizing the World Conference on Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) in order to improve policies between different areas for the achievement of goal 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the NCDs.  It is hoped to reduce by one third the premature mortality on non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment.
The Conference, to be held on October 18 thru 20, 2017 in Montevideo, will be sponsored by the President ofl Uruguay.

Talks were also held about the activities to be carried out during the next Summit of World Leaders of Cancer in the city of Mexico in November 13 thru 15, 2017.

SECOND MULTIDISCIPLINARY FORUM ON CANCER 2017

In August 15 and 16, the Argentina League of Fight against Cancer (LALCEC) carried out at the Rural the second edition of the Multidisciplinary Forum on Cancer.  The purpose of the event was to address the problem of the disease from a horizontal perspective, as well as debate and analyze among different sectors the possibilities, challenges and obstacles to face in the fight against cancer.
More than 120 prestigious speakers, among which were governmental authorities and of public organisms, specialized journalists, recovered patients, opinion leaders, celebrities and representative of different sectors, who spoke in more than ten tables during the two days.

Some of the topics covered in the Forum were: Argentina and the 3D cancer, the position of the State, NGOs and private against the disease; the role of the technologic innovation in the fight against cancer; prevention and risk factors; cancer and sports; cancer situation in Latin America; ca; the mediatic approach of the disease; beliefs and alternative medicine. Also the launch of the event "Relay for life", that LALCEC will bring to Argentina in 2018, and presented the City Cancer Challenge 2025 challenge, led by the UICC.

RECOMENDACIONES PARA LA PREVENCIÓN DEL CÁNCER PARA LATINOAMERICA Y EL CARIBE: REUNIÓN DE EXPLORACIÓN

El 24 y 25 de  Abril  de  2017 se realizó en Washington la reunión sobre   las “RECOMENDACIONES PARA LA PREVENCIÓN DEL CÁNCER PARA LATINOAMERICA Y EL CARIBE: REUNIÓN DE EXPLORACIÓN”.

El propósito de la reunión fue  discutir las necesidades de la región y la factibilidad de adaptar el Código Europeo Contra el Cáncer como recomendaciones de prevención del cáncer basadas en evidencia al contexto de Latinoamérica y el Caribe como así también  para desarrollar un plan de trabajo del proyecto, incluyendo movilización de recursos y estrategias de comunicación.

Las principales organizaciones fundadoras son WHO-PAHO, IARC, NCI-US, RINC, SLACOM, LALCEC junto a otras   organizaciones regionales y por país.

La próxima reunión tendrá lugar en Buenos Aires el 15-16 de Agosto de 2017 durante el 2° Foro Multidisciplinario del Cáncer”.

CANCER PREVENTION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN: SCOPING MEETING

On 24-25 April 2017 the “CANCER PREVENTION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN: SCOPING MEETING” was held at the PAHO Headquarters in Washington, DC.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the regional needs and feasibility of adapting the European Code Against Cancer, as evidence-based cancer prevention recommendations, to the context of Latin America and the Caribbean; and to develop a project work plan, including resource mobilization and communication strategies.

Main founding organizations are WHO-PAHO, IARC, NCI-US, RINC, SLACOM, LALCEC and other regional and country organizations.

The next meeting will take place in Buenos Aires, August 15-16, 2017 during the 2ns Multidisciplinary Cancer Forum”.

Se pretende aprobar la “Hoja de ruta de Montevideo” que buscará reducir sustancialmente la mortalidad por las ENT mediante la prevención y el tratamiento de las mismas, así como el firme compromiso de la comunidad internacional en la lucha contra estas enfermedades.

Global Conference on Noncommunicable Diseases

Se está preparando la realización del 18° Congreso Latinoamericano de Mastología, a realizarse del 9 al 11 de noviembre en el Hotel Jaragua en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.

El cáncer de mama es una realidad epidemiológica preocupante en Latinoamérica y el resto del mundo y, particularmente en países en vías de desarrollo, la prevención, diagnóstico y el tratamiento de esta enfermedad que golpea tanto a nuestras mujeres, tiene un doble reto, ya que a veces no contamos con los recursos económicos para cursar las mejores opciones terapéuticas, aunque contamos con expertos en la materia de calidad mundial en todos nuestros países latinoamericanos, cosa que nos debe llenar de mucho orgullo. 
Contaremos con la presencia de personalidades de talla mundial en el manejo del cáncer de mama.

XVIII Latin American Congress of Mastology

The 18th Latin American Congress on Mastology is being prepared, to take place from 9 to 11 November at the Hotel Jaragua in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Breast cancer is a worrisome epidemiologic reality in Latin America and the rest of the World, particularly in developing countries, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disease that has such impact in our women, has a double challenge, since we sometimes do not have the economic resources to perform the best therapeutic options, although we have experts in the subject of world quality in all of our Latin-American countries, something which should make us all proud. 
We will count with the presence of world-class personalities in the handling of breast cancer.

El número más reciente de Cancer Biology & Medicine ha sido publicado recientemente. Puso de relieve las vías que se refieren a la metástasis del cáncer y microambiente tumoral, inmunología oncológica, estrategia novedosa para la detección del síndrome de Lynch, modelo de pronóstico biológico del linfoma difuso de grandes células B, expresión del receptor de vitamina D en melanoma cutáneo, lesiones orales asociadas a quimio-radioterapia en el carcinoma epidermoide oral, etcétera. Esperamos que los artículos de este número beneficien sus investigaciones y práctica clínica.

Publication of the 2nd issue in 2017
The latest issue of Cancer Biology & Medicine has been published recently. It highlighted pathways referring to cancer metastasis and tumor microenvironment, oncologic immunology, novel strategy for detection of Lynch syndrome, biologic prognostic model of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, vitamin D receptor expression in cutaneous melanoma, chemoradiotherapy-associated oral lesions in oral squamouscell carcinoma, and so on. Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer

El Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer es un grupo de colaboración que reúne 19 miembros de 9 países y diferentes sectores (médicos, asociaciones de pacientes, instituciones) con el fin de analizar y discutir temas relacionados con el estado del cáncer en la región, y ofrecer recomendaciones para avanzar contra la enfermedad.
El Observatorio surgió de una reunión convocada conjuntamente por la UICC y SLACOM en 2014 en Colombia, en la que se acordaron tres puntos clave de acción prioritaria:

1. Detección temprana de la enfermedad (formación médica y tamizaje)
2. Acceso a tratamientos (mejor acceso y más oportuno)
3. Atención integral (con apoyo multidisciplinario y cuidados paliativos)

Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO)

The Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO) is a multi-stakeholder group that gathers 19 members from across nine countries to discuss and analyze topics relevant to cancer in the region, offering recommendations to make progress against the disease. LACO emerged from a meeting jointly convened by UICC and SLACOM in May 2014 in Colombia. On that occasion, its members agreed on three priority areas to improve cancer control in Latin America:

1. Early detection of the disease (medical training and screening)
2. Access to treatment (better and timely access)
3. Holistic care (multidisciplinary support and palliative care)
