Campaña “Hablemos de Cáncer"
Ministerio de Salud de Argentina lo presenta para derribar mitos sobre la enfermedad
Es una estrategia de comunicación del Ministerio de Salud de la Nación con el fin de visibilizar la problemática a través de una página web y mensajes difundidos por las redes sociales.
Con el fin de visibilizar una problemática signada por los mitos, el silencio, el desconocimiento y el miedo, por primera vez en Argentina se lanza desde el ámbito público una campaña de comunicación que, bajo el lema "Hablemos de Cáncer", invita a reflexionar, intercambiar, compartir y conocer más sobre una enfermedad que puede prevenirse, diagnosticarse, tratarse y muchas veces curarse.
Se trata de una iniciativa que el Ministerio de Salud de la Nación, a cargo de Juan Manzur, presenta en el marco del Día Mundial contra el Cáncer, que se conmemora cada 4 de febrero, y tiene como principales canales de difusión la página web www.msal.gov.ar/hablemosdecancer y las redes sociales. La campaña fue desarrollada por la Secretaría de Comunicación Pública de la Presidencia de la Nación, la Coordinación de Información Pública y Comunicación de la cartera sanitaria nacional y el Instituto Nacional del Cáncer (INC).

Campaign “Let’s talk about Cancer"
The Argentine Ministry of Health presents it to destroy myths about the disease
It’s a communication strategy from the Ministry of Health with the objective to highlight the problem through a web page and messages spread through the social networks.
In order to make visible a problem marked by the myths, the silence, the unawareness and the fear, for the first time in Argentina a communication campaign is launched from the public arena that, under the motto “Let’s talk about Cancer", invites to think, exchange, share and know more about a disease which can be prevented, diagnosed, treated and more often, cured.
It is an initiative that the Ministry of Health, in charge of Juan Manzur, presents in the framework of World Cancer Day, which is celebrated each 4th of February, and has as its main broadcasting channels the web page www.msal.gov.ar/hablemosdecancer and social networks. The campaign was developed by the Secretariat of Public Communication of the Presidency, the Coordination of Public Information and Communication of the national health portfolio and the National Cancer Institute (INC).

La Fundación Carolina se constituye en octubre del año 2000 como una institución para la promoción de las relaciones culturales y la cooperación en materia educativa y científica entre España y los países de la Comunidad Iberoamericana de Naciones, así como con otros países con especiales vínculos históricos, culturales o geográficos.
Desde Fundación Carolina han enviado información sobre las becas que ofrecen para médicos especialistas Latinoamericanos.
Este programa de becas lo vienen convocando desde el año 2002 y está patrocinado por la Fundación BBVA.
El plazo de presentación de solicitudes finalizará el 13 de marzo de 2014.
La resolución de la concesión de la beca se realizará antes del 31 de octubre de 2014.

Specialization Fellowships for the Formation in Spain of Latinamerican Medicine Specialists – Foundation BBVA-Foundation Carolina
Deadline for presentation of applications: March 13, 2014
The Foundation Carolina is initiated in October of 2000 as an institution for the promotion of cultural relations and the cooperation on educational and scientific matters between Spain and the countries of the Latinamerican Community of Nations, as well as with other countries with special historic, cultural or geographic links.
From Foundation Carolina they have sent information on the fellowships they offer for Latinamerican specialists.
This fellowships program is being convoked since 2002 and is sponsored by the Foundation BBVA.
The limit for presenting applications will end on March 13, 2014.
The resolution of the granting of the fellowship will take place before October 31, 2014.

Realizado cada 2 años desde 2004 ACORD es un workshop intensivo interactivo en métodos de investigación clínica y desarrollo de protocolo abierto para investigadores del cáncer en todas las sub-especialidades oncológicas de Australia y la región Asia Pacífico.
Sesenta participantes son seleccionados a través de un competitivo proceso de inscripción se une en el Workshop. Australia & Asia Pacific Clinical Oncology Research Development Workshop (ACORD) 2014

Held every 2 years since 2004 ACORD is a 1-week, intensive interactive workshop in clinical research methods and protocol development open for cancer researchers in all oncology subspecialties from Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Sixty participants are selected through a competitive application process to join in the Workshop. Participants represent a wide range of oncology backgrounds, with specialities including Medical, Surgical, Psycho, Neuro, Gynaecology, Head and Neck and Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Pharmacology, Nursing, Palliative Care and Allied Health disciplines. Each participant receives individual guidance and assistance from the faculty with the protocols they are selected to develop at the Workshop, and work collaboratively with their international peers. The workshop is supported by the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, the Medical Oncology Group of Australia and the Cancer Council Australia.

Las investigaciones en salud son fundamentales para avanzar hacia la cobertura sanitaria universal
BEIJING, 15 de agosto de 2013 – Con el lanzamiento del Informe sobre la salud en el mundo 2013, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) ha pedido hoy a los países que sigan invirtiendo en investigaciones de ámbito nacional a fin de poner en marcha un sistema de cobertura sanitaria universal adaptado a la situación de cada país concreto. Mediante la cobertura universal, los países contribuyen a garantizar que los ciudadanos obtengan los servicios de salud que necesiten sin sufrir por ello problemas económicos graves a la hora de pagarlos.
La Dra. Margaret Chan, Directora General de la OMS, ha descrito la cobertura universal como “el concepto más poderoso que la salud pública puede ofrecer”. Con ocasión de la publicación del Informe sobre la salud en el mundo 2013: Investigaciones para una cobertura sanitaria universal, la Dra. Chan ha señalado que "la cobertura universal es la mejor manera de consolidar los avances en salud de la última década. Es un igualador social eficaz y la máxima expresión de justicia."
El informe muestra cómo pueden los países, a la hora de desarrollar un sistema de cobertura sanitaria universal, servirse de la investigación para determinar los problemas de salud a afrontar, cómo debe estructurarse el sistema, y cómo han de medirse los progresos realizados en función de su situación sanitaria específica.
El informe revela que, como promedio, la inversión nacional en investigación en los países de ingresos bajos y medios viene creciendo un 5% anual. Esta tendencia se observa especialmente en las economías emergentes como el Brasil, China y la India, países todos ellos que han adoptado el concepto de cobertura sanitaria universal.
Los estudios de casos realizados en muchos países demuestran la importancia que para mejorar la salud revisten las investigaciones nacionales y mundiales, investigaciones que abarcan desde la prevención y el control de enfermedades específicas hasta la mejora del funcionamiento de los sistemas de salud. Los resultados de esos estudios hacen hincapié en la necesidad crucial de emprender investigaciones a nivel local, para que los investigadores puedan tener en cuenta los factores específicos más importantes en cada país.
"Las investigaciones para una cobertura sanitaria universal no son un lujo; son, ante todo, fundamentales para el descubrimiento, el desarrollo y la realización de las intervenciones que se necesitan para mantener la buena salud", se dice en el informe.
El informe muestra también que, gracias a la colaboración internacional, está aumentando el número de publicaciones sobre investigaciones sanitarias. Científicos de países de ingresos bajos y medios participan cada vez más en esas colaboraciones, aunque los países de ingresos altos siguen predominando en la mayoría de los estudios. China brinda un ejemplo: entre 2000 y 2010, la proporción mundial de investigadores chinos como coautores de investigaciones publicadas aumentó del 5% al 13%. El Brasil, la India y otros países también han aumentado su participación en las publicaciones de investigación. Sin embargo, aunque las investigaciones están aumentando en general, lo están haciendo de forma desigual.
"Todas las naciones deben ser tanto productoras como consumidoras de investigaciones. La creatividad y la competencia de los investigadores son la piedra angular de los programas académicos y de salud pública", dice el Dr. Christopher Dye, Director de la Oficina de Información Sanitaria, VIH/sida, Tuberculosis, Malaria y Enfermedades Tropicales Desatendidas, y autor principal del informe. "La existencia de un amplio abanico de estudios de investigación básica y aplicada es fundamental para lograr la cobertura sanitaria universal, pero el desfase entre los conocimientos teóricos y la acción se está corrigiendo muy lentamente. Tenemos que acelerar el proceso de acercamiento entre investigadores e instancias decisorias, a fin de mejorar la cobertura de servicios de salud".
La cobertura sanitaria universal requiere un sistema de salud robusto, eficiente y bien gestionado; un sistema de financiación de los servicios de salud; acceso a medicamentos y tecnologías esenciales; y trabajadores sanitarios suficientes, bien capacitados y motivados.
Para responder a esos retos, la OMS alienta a los donantes internacionales y los gobiernos nacionales no solo a invertir en investigación, sino también a respaldar los mecanismos de intercambio de información y datos, fortalecer la formación en investigación y las instituciones a ello dedicadas, y cuantificar los progresos relacionados con sus compromisos en pro de la cobertura sanitaria universal.

Health research is essential for progress towards universal health coverage
BEIJING, 15 August 2013 – At the launch of the World Health Report 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) today called on countries to continue investing in local research in order to develop a system of universal health coverage tailored to each individual country’s situation. With universal health coverage, countries can help ensure that citizens obtain the health services they need without suffering financial hardship when paying for them.
Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, describes universal coverage as “the single most powerful concept that public health has to offer.” In launching the World Health Report 2013: Research for universal health coverage, Dr. Chan says “universal coverage is the best way to cement the health gains made during the previous decade. It is a powerful social equalizer and the ultimate expression of fairness.”
The report shows how countries, when developing a system for universal health coverage, can use research to determine what health issues should be addressed, how a system should be structured and how to measure progress according to their specific health situation.
The report reveals that, on average, domestic investment in research in low- and middle-income countries has been growing 5% each year. This trend is most visible in emerging economies such as Brazil, China and India, all of which have embraced the concept of universal health coverage.
Case studies from many countries demonstrate the importance of local and global research for improving health, ranging from the prevention and control of specific diseases to the better functioning of health systems. The results of these studies emphasize the critical need for research to be carried out locally, where researchers can consider specific factors critical to individual countries.
“Research for universal health coverage is not a luxury; rather, it is fundamental to the discovery, development and delivery of interventions that people need to maintain good health,” the report notes.
The report also shows that more health research is being published as a result of international collaboration. Scientists from low- and middle-income countries are increasingly engaged in these collaborations, although high-income countries continue to play a prominent role in most studies. China is one example: from 2000 to 2010 the global share of Chinese researchers as co-authors on published research increased from 5% to 13%. Brazil, India and other countries have also increased their participation in published research. However, although research is increasing overall, growth is uneven.
“All nations should be producers as well as consumers of research. The creativity and skill of researchers are the backbone of academic and public health programs,” says Dr. Christopher Dye, Director, Office of Health Information, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria & Neglected Tropical Diseases and lead author of the report. “A wide range of basic and applied research studies is essential to reach universal health coverage, but gaps between knowledge and action are being closed very slowly. We need to accelerate the process of bringing scientists and decision makers together to improve health service coverage.”
Universal health coverage requires a strong, efficient, well-run health system; a system for financing health services; access to essential medicines and technologies, and sufficient well-trained, motivated health workers.
To meet the challenges, WHO encourages international donors and national governments not only to invest in research, but also to support mechanisms for sharing information and data, to strengthen research training and institutions, and to measure progress against their own commitment to achieving universal health coverage.

The European School of Oncology in co-operation with Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology and Critical Reviews in Oncology Hematology is holding a series of distance learning programmes on the Internet, called 'e-sessions': e-grandrounds and e-oncoreviews.
e-grandrounds: are weekly sessions on hot-topics organised without commercial sponsorship and are CME and ESMO-MORA accredited.
e-oncoreviews: are monthly sessions designed to offer a balance and comprehensive overview on a specific topic, be it a tumour type, a type of therapy, diagnostic or therapeutic approach. Some e-oncoreviews are organised in collaboration with the School's sponsors, whilst ESO-organised sessions are held in co-operation with Nature Reviews in Clinical Oncology and Critical Reviews in Oncology Hematology and CME and ESMO-MORA accredited.
Participants are invited to attend the sessions live:
- e-grandrounds: every Thursday at the same time (18:15-19:00 CET)
- e-oncoreviews: the first Tuesday of the month at the same time (18:15-19:00 CET)
- or the Recorded Session that is available 24 hours after the session live.
